Football games go hand in hand with bright fall afternoons. If you are a player and want to improve your skills, you have come to the right place. Remember to use the advice in this article to become an incredible player yourself.

Attack every single play as if it were fourth and goal of the last minutes of the Superbowl. Some players just go through the rote motions, and they miss things they will ultimately regret. Give 150% every time the ball is in play.

If you aren’t tough, football is not the game for you. Honestly, if you can’t handle being tackled, you should play tennis or golf or some other non-contact sport. Don’t play the game because your Father wants you to if you really don’t want to get thrown to the ground.

Learn the proper technique for backpedaling in football. Keep your posture low and make sure your shoulders are aligned over your feet. This technique allows you to keep your balance when changing positions. Practice this technique often with a few of your teammates so that it becomes second nature.

If you want to be a quarterback, or just be better at playing the position, the one thing you need to work on more than anything is passing. Even when you don’t have access to a field, step outside with a friend and aim to throw past them so they have to run and catch it. If you don’t have someone to practice with, throw at a stationary target.

Practice all that you can. Football may look easy when watching it on television, but that’s far from the truth. It’s a very physically demanding sport that also take a lot of brain power. You need to remember patterns and think on your feet with little notice to succeed. All of this takes practice.

A great tip you can use if you’re a football player is to start practicing olympic lifts in your workout routine. Olympic lifts give you a lot of functional strength which will help you a lot in any position you play. Particularly useful lifts are the power clean and deadlift.

Build power and muscles by training with box jumps. Make sure you have a very sturdy large box with a height between 2 feet and 3 feet, determined by your own height. Jump onto the edge of the box repeatedly, straightening your back each time you reach the top of the box. Repeat up to 20 times.

Follow through on the kick must be given extra attention. The kicker’s head must be down with eyes focused on the foot actually make contact with the ball. Teamwork is important to being successful. It’s not always easy to remember the team if you want to be an NFL star, but you must. A win depends on the whole team, not just the efforts of one player. You’re not a good player if you cannot recognize the contributions from your team and accept the fact that teamwork produces better results.

Proper padding for the lower body is a must. Pants can be purchased with pads built in or with pockets in them to slide the pads into them. No matter what type of pants you decide on, make sure that you have pads to protect the tailbone, knees, thighs and hips.

Make sure all your gear is in good shape, it fits well and is comfortable. Do not play a game of football with a broken helmet or worn out sneakers. You put yourself at risk for injury when you wear inappropriate gear. Keep your self in the game by wearing the appropriate gear at all time.

Being big is sometimes helpful when you play football, but make sure you don’t become fat. Fat leaves you unhealthy and tired. Pack on the muscle and maintain a reduced body fat count.

Practice whenever you can, even if it’s by yourself. You don’t need to be around your team to get a good practice session in. While it’s helpful, it’s definitely not necessary. You can practice sprinting, agility moves, your patterns, and even catching by throwing the ball high into the air.

There will be times that opposing teams play rough or target you. If you think that they are deliberately trying to cause you physical harm, tell your coach. Do not retaliate on the field. It could lead to injuries, cause your team penalties and possibly get you thrown out of the game.

Decline penalties when running down the clock. This lets you deduct 10 seconds from the clock, which brings you closer to a win. You can get in trouble yourself if you try to force the opposing team to commit penalties. Penalties should be allowed to happen naturally.
